What these will fit:
This auction is for a
set of Genuine Magna-Tusk™ grips for the Herter’s Powermag revolvers, chambered in .357 Magnum,
.44 Magnum, and .401 Herter’s Powermag.
A Brief History of the Herter’s
Powermag revolver: The Herter’s company
was founded well over a century ago in 1893 by George Herter as a dry goods
store, in Waseca, Minnesota. In 1937 it
was converted to a mail order company selling hunting, fishing, and trapping
equipment that eventually became the largest in the world. Herter’s manufactured most of their wide
range of products in-house. They not
only sold through their catalog but also owned and operated several retail
outlets, similar to what Cabela’s and Bass Pro shops are doing today (in fact,
Cabela’s now owns the Herter’s product line).
To supplement their product line, Herter’s imported a robust and
well-made revolver known as the Herter’s Powermag revolver, from J.P. Sauer
& Sohn, a well-known West German firearms manufacturer, who was also maker
of the Hawes Western Marshal revolvers, among others. These revolvers were solidly constructed, well
machined, with caseheads recessed in the chambers, and feature well-made
sights.
These revolvers were available in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, and a caliber
exclusive to the Herter’s, the .401 Herter’s Powermag. To allow better handling of the powerful
recoil these revolvers were capable of generating, they sported an oversized
grip. This grip has been referred to as a
“kind of Colt plowhandle meets Bisley on steroids.” Some shooters are said to prefer this
gripframe even more than the Ruger Bisley frame for recoil management.
These revolvers are no longer made and are getting more difficult to source,
and are starting to enjoy collector interest among some firearms afficionados.
What these will NOT fit:
Please note that these grips are made to
fit ONLY the Herter’s Powermag Single Action revolvers, chambered in .357
Magnum, .44 Magnum, and/or .401 Herter’s Powermag.
These will NOT fit any revolvers from other makers (such as Uberti, Pietta, Armi San Marco, Colt, Ruger, etc.).

Arizona Custom Grips
About our exclusive Magna-Tusk™ “Hi-Grade”
Ivory and Stag Grips:
Magna-Tusk™ Ivory and Stag grips, an
exclusive of Arizona Custom Grips, are manufactured out of our
super high-grade, ultra-high density material developed exclusively for our
premium grip production. Vastly superior to standard bonded ivory or
stag found on factory and other aftermarket grips, Magna-Tusk™ is capable of
withstanding the heaviest recoil and impact, and is the toughest alternative grip
material available today, while still retaining the pristine look of real ivory
or stag. It is completely rock-solid, stable, and water, chemical,
and oil resistant. It is flame and heat resistant, and is entirely
void-free, with over 10x the strength, durability, and impact resistance of
alternative materials. Unlike with real ivory or stag, there is no
routine care and maintenance involved, with no danger of it drying out and
cracking if not maintained properly or if left in the heat. It is
filled with premium natural and synthetic compounds to produce outstanding
aesthetic properties and mechanical performance. When aged with our
exclusive aging process, it takes on the equivalent of a 100-year-old patina,
with subtle grain details which many experts cannot tell apart from the real
thing. In addition, the material has a fine grain structure, which
holds intricate detail for carvings, artistic relief work, etc., found on many
historic grips.
Please note: We make every effort to ensure the best fit possible. Besides using exacting standards and state-of-the art-equipment in our manufacturing operations, every set of grips is hand checked on our test frame for proper fit prior to leaving our factory. This ensures the best fit in the industry. Occasionally, however, your grip pin may have been installed slightly out of alignment or position, and you may find it necessary to slightly open up the grip pin holes on the back of the grips to get the grips to seat fully. Full, easy to follow instructions are provided with every set of grips.
Grip screw included with all grips.
