ONE-PIECE VS. TWO-PIECE STYLE GRIPS EXPLAINED:

Note: One-Piece style grips do not have a visible screw but instead use an internal spacer to mount the grips.  Two-Piece style grips incorporate a visible screw, allowing easy and quick removal for cleaning or maintenance of your revolver.  We manufacture both types.  Both styles of our grips will interchange and work on either style of grip frame, no matter how your revolver is currently set up.  Both styles are traditional and historical designs and both were originally used on early Colts, so whichever style you choose is really a matter of personal preference. 

One-Piece style grips (i.e., grips with no visible screwhole in the grips) incorporate a spacer (included with the grips) which is user mounted to the inside of the grip panels to hold them in place instead of a using a screw.  To ensure optimum fit and best performance, the spacer is sent unmounted since all gripframes vary slightly in inside dimensions.  Installation is simple and generally takes only a few minutes.  Illustrated instructions included with each order.  This results in a rock-tight fit, without the need of a screw.  One-Piece grips are preferred by many collectors for their clean lines and traditional look, and are seen on many early Colts. Once mounted, they are fully removable by removing the three backstrap screws, and will not alter your revolver in any way.  Reinstallation is in reverse order. 

Alternatively, our Two-Piece style grips (i.e., grips with a visible screw) offer the superior convenience of quick grip removal using only the screw (also included with the grips).  Our Two-Piece style grips also include our proprietary Conversion Kit, allowing their use on revolvers that do not have a grip pin in the frame (as is the case with most Italian-made revolvers and others that currently have a one-piece style grip).  The Conversion Kit replaces the need for a grip pin and is actually a stronger design, and allows the grips to lock up tight on the frame, allowing no movement.  This requires no modification to your revolver.  Two-piece grips give you the advantage of easier access to your revolver for cleaning and maintenance, while preserving the integrity of your revolver in original factory condition. Two-Piece style grips were also used on many of the early Colts, and are a traditional and iconic historical design, offering a distinctive look and convenience preferred by many shooters and collectors.

WHAT THESE WILL FIT:

Brand New, Magna-Tusk™ grips for the UBERTI (Cimarron) Thunderer 1873 Single Action Army style revolvers.  These revolvers are made by Uberti (Italy), and imported by Cimarron (Texas, USA). 

These will also fit the “Doc Holliday” Thunderer versions, and any other versions with the Thunderer shaped gripframe.  Note carefully that the Thunderer revolvers have a “hump” in the backstrap, as shown in the picture. 

These grips will also fit the Uberti (Cimarron)Thunderstorm with the Thunderer-style gripframe (again, with the backstrap hump, directly behind the hammer of the revolver).

What these WILL NOT fit:

Please note that these grips are NOT the same as a “Birdshead” grip profile, which do not have the “Hump” in the backstrap.  Please take a careful look at the picture to see the difference.  Your gripframe must have the humped backstrap for these to fit correctly.  If you instead have the Birdshead style, please see our listings for Uberti Birdshead grips, or contact us if you cannot find what you need, and we will be happy to help.

Also, note that these will NOT fit the Uberti Lightning, which uses a similar shaped grip but is in fact smaller than the Thunderer.  Please take a look at the pictures carefully to note the difference in size.  If you have the smaller Lightning gripframe, please see our listings for the correct grips, or contact us if you cannot find what you need.

Finally, please note that these will fit ONLY the Uberti revolvers, and will NOT fit anything made by Pietta (such as the Pietta Thunderball), Colt (such as their original Lightning or Thunderer model 1877 revolvers), nor will these fit any other make of revolver.  We have grips for these as well if you check our store or website.  Contact us if you cannot find what you need.  If you are unsure what you have, please drop us an email and send pictures if possible, and we will be happy to help.

About our exclusive Magna-Tusk™ “Hi-Grade” Ivory Grips:

Magna-Tusk™ Ivory grips, an exclusive of Arizona Custom Grips, are manufactured out of a super high-grade, ultra-high density Ivory material developed exclusively for our premium grip production.  Vastly superior to standard bonded ivory found on factory and other aftermarket Ivory grips, Magna-Tusk™ is capable of withstanding the heaviest recoil and impact, and is the toughest alternative ivory material available today, while still retaining the pristine look of real ivory.  It is completely rock-solid, stable, and water, chemical, and oil resistant.  It is flame and heat resistant, and is entirely void-free, with over 10x the strength, durability, and impact resistance of alternative materials.  Unlike with real ivory, there is no routine care and maintenance involved, with no danger of it drying out and cracking if not maintained properly or if left in the heat.  It is filled with premium natural and synthetic compounds to produce outstanding aesthetic properties and mechanical performance.  When aged with our exclusive aging process, it takes on the equivalent of a 100-year-old patina, with subtle grain details which many experts cannot tell apart from the real thing.  In addition, the material has a fine grain structure, which holds intricate detail for carvings, imitation stag, etc., found on many historic grips.  

About Our Aging Process:  The best Aged Ivory grips start with the best materials.  Unlike the commonly available “solid yellow” plastic grips which detract from the appearance and handling of a revolver or firearm, our Aged Ivory grips are made out of the best components available, incorporate natural materials, and feature a genuine, authentic patina.  Their authenticity is so convincing that many experts cannot tell it apart from real Ivory.  The difference is noticeable in the photos, but is even more apparent in person.  These grips feature authentic color mottling, variegation, and subtle wear marks as seen on many of the revolvers which belonged to gunfighters and lawmen of the Old West. 

We offer the highest quality, most authentic imitation Aged Ivory grips available anywhere on the market. 

Our process utilizes concentrated UV light (the essential aging property in natural sunlight), and in addition employing heat and pressure in a special controlled high oxygen-rich environment which accelerates the aging process.  Unlike a painted surface, our patina actually extends below the surface, into the grip material itself.  Not only does it look better to begin with, but will not chip, crack, or peel, like superficially applied surfaces.  With our exclusive aging process, these grips are outstanding right out of the box, and will continue to improve over time.  The more these grips are handled and used, just like any genuine patina, the better they look!
